PCR tests: Schmallenberg Virus (Cattle, Sheep)

Schmallenberg Virus is a significant concern for cattle and sheep farmers, causing congenital malformations, abortions, and stillbirths. The disease is spread by midges (Culicoides spp.) and can sporadically infect susceptible animals ( cattle and sheep)  Farmlab’s PCR test detects the Schmallenberg Virus quickly and accurately, allowing farmers to identify infected animals and manage the risks effectively.

Our PCR test identifies viral RNA from blood or tissue samples, making it a critical tool for disease management, especially during high risk periods, such as breeding and calving seasons. The test helps farmers understand the presence and spread of the virus in their herd, enabling timely interventions.

Operating from Elphin, Co. Roscommon, Farmlab provides Irish farmers with reliable diagnostic testing, contributing to the health and productivity of their livestock. Learn more about our testing services on our tests page or contact us via our contact page.
