PCR tests: Tick Borne Fever (Cattle, Sheep)

Tick-borne fever, caused by the bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum, is a common disease in cattle and sheep, especially in areas with high tick populations. It can lead to fever, reduced fertility, and increased susceptibility to other infections. Farmlab’s tick-borne fever PCR test provides precise detection of the pathogen, allowing for timely intervention and management.

The PCR test identifies the presence of the bacteria in blood samples, providing quick and accurate results. Early detection helps farmers implement appropriate control measures, such as tick management strategies, reducing the impact of the disease on herd and flock health. Samples should be collected in EDTA vacutainers. Up to 6 individual samples can be run as one pooled test in the laboratory providing a cost-effective means of identifying this agent in the blood.

Located in Elphin, Co. Roscommon, Farmlab offers advanced diagnostic services to support Irish vets and farmers in effectively managing tick-borne diseases.
